Release (3/12/09):
Transwave
Communications Systems was awarded a contract to upgrade the
existing Wireless Wide Area Network for the Town of Tonawanda,
NY. The upgrade forklifts all sites that are currently
serviced by the Town's existing microwave system to new state of
the art broadband equipment. The new system procured by
the Town includes backbone equipment that operates in a licensed
frequency band. This equipment is manufactured by Harris
Stratex, and it will establish a 300 Mbps broadband connection
between two (2) key Town sites for converged traffic. The
contract also upgrades all other sites utilizing Alvarion's
Breeze Access 4900 equipment. This equipment will operate
in the new 4.9 GHz "Licensed" Public Safety band. This
equipment is much better equipped to handle the Town's broadband
demands in a secure and uncluttered frequency band. The
value of this contract is $211,484.81. The contract was
awarded in December of 2008. Completion is planned for
Spring of 2009.
